Hide the Wires: Cable, Phone and Charger Tips for a Tidy Desk
A desk can have a good screen and a neat surface and still look chaotic if the cables are coiled on top and the phone has no home. Cables and phones cause most of the clutter that people try to fix later with organisers. The full sequence is covered in our guide to building a desk setup in the right order, and this post focuses on the wires and the phone.
Quick rules for a clutter free desk
- Shorten the visible cable run and bundle the rest
- Choose cables that match the length you actually need
- Run power cables behind the desk, route them together and label both ends
- Keep the phone upright on a stand and not flat on the desk
- Use wireless charging if your phone supports it
- Add a monitor light bar last so its angle is adjusted once
Most desk mess comes from long cables left coiled on the surface. A retractable cable solves part of this, since only the length you need sits on the desk, and one cable that serves a phone, tablet and laptop means fewer chargers. Planning each cable’s route before plugging it in removes most of the problem.
The phone is the second source of clutter. A flat phone takes space and breaks focus every time it lights up, so it works better upright and visible on a stand. A wireless charger removes one cable end from the desk and gives the phone a fixed home, and a 3 in 1 model can replace three cables with one footprint. Check that the phone supports wireless charging first, and keep the charger near the mouse pad so the phone stays within reach. Mobile stands, cables and other pieces are available at the GrunX accessories store.
Before buying cables, check the connector, length and wattage you need. You can compare options in the GrunX fast charging cables collection and choose ones that match the length of your desk.
